Honda Racing MX Martin rider Jimmy Albertson made a solid return to the GP scene in Teutschenthal. Having been plagued with injury throughout the first half of the season, the likeable American was relieved to finish both motos without any major dramas and get some points under his belt.
The US Grand Prix will represent the sixth round of fifteen in the 2010 FIM Motocross World Championship but it will also be the first visit to the USA for the series this century and break a drought of twenty years since the talismanic venue of Glen Helen last saw GP machinery in anger.
America's sole GP factory rider Jimmy Albertson has toughed it out and won the race against time to get fit again for his home GP at Glen Helen !
The 21 year old Martin Honda factory rider, who wrecked his shoulder just ten days ago at the Bellpuig GP, has been given the all-clear to race his home GP and is just rarin’ to go !
"I'm in, man ! The shoulder is doing great ! Let's go racing !"
That was the short, decisive message which came through this afternoon from Missouri.
Jimmy Albertson set the MXGP paddock buzzing on his European debut at the Mantova Starcross in February. In the very first event, the One-on-One – where two riders race each other for a single lap – Albertson won through all the rounds and sensationally took the final ahead of reigning world champion Toni Cairoli. In his first event he’d beaten most of MXGP’s top riders. However, these were one lap sprints and the 22 year old would later find that over a longer duration the MXGP paddock are indeed tough competitors.

"Jimmy who ?" asked the doubters when Paolo Martin signed Jimmy Albertson to race the MX1 GPs for the next two years as official Honda rider. Victory after meeting Clement Desalle, Max Nagl, Steve Ramon, Toni Cairoli and Marvin Musquin in the Airoh One-on-One at Mantova opened a few eyes, and mx-pure.com readers have already got to meet the 21 year old from Missouri briefly straight after the Italian race. Today and tomorrow we get to know Jimmy a little better.
Jimmy Albertson is the latest American rider to switch across the Atlantic and will race in the 2010 FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship after signing a deal with the Martin Honda team.
Albertson, who finished in the top 10 in the AMA National championships with Valli Motorsports, has signed a two-year deal with the Italian-based team.
Albertson took part in a test with the team and decided Europe was the place where he wanted to continue his career.
Have you heard the news that Mr. Albertson is going to Europe? The Oklahoma resident found himself out of work recently following a few disagreements with his Valli Yamaha team, and it was slightly surprising to hear that he’d signed a two-year contract with the Italian-based Martin Honda team to contest the FIM World Championships. We caught up with Jimmy this morning, two days after he got back from his trip to Italy to sign his contract.

Jimmy Albertson has already won a lot of friends in Europe with his competitive and friendly nature. We talked to the 21 year old from Missouri and elder brother Gregg after Jimmy had made his international debut on the Martin Honda at Mantova, where he was one of the few riders to head world champion Toni Cairoli all weekend.
Q: So, Jimmy, how are you finding Europe ?
JIMMY: It's definitely different to the United States, a lot more laid-back, not so wild. Life seems a little more calmed down, the Italians in particular seem really laid back. But the fans over here go crazy at the race. I did one race in Spain; there weren't so many riders and I just figured it would be a small race, but it was insane, thousands of fans turned up. It was pretty unreal. It's definitely a lot different over here, but I'm liking, that's for sure.
Q: Was there just you and Gregg in Spain, or did anyone else from the team come along ?
